How to Care for a Hand-Turned Wood Bowl

Every bowl in this approved group is food-safe and made to be used and enjoyed. Hand wash with mild soap and warm water, then dry promptly with a towel. Do not soak a bowl, leave it standing in water, or put it in a dishwasher or microwave; heat and long exposure to water can stress the wood and finish.

Craig finishes his medium and large bowls with Osmo Hard Oil. The smaller bowls are finished with mineral oil and beeswax. Both groups are food-safe, but they should be cared for according to their finish. If a bowl begins to look dry, contact Craig before applying a care product so the finish is refreshed with the right material.

The point is not to keep a handmade bowl under glass. Simple care lets the wood keep doing what it does best: bring warmth, figure, and a little bit of the tree into everyday life.
